“From the Darkroom to the Reflex Camera” is an Initiation Course to Analogue Photography, organised in 10 sessions of 3h (total of 30 hours), for young students and adults.

 

During the sessions, the following topics will be covered:

  • the principles of light, optics and the history of cultures. The Mobile Museum will visit schools and institutions with several objects from the “Optical Devices” Collection of the Casa da Imagem Museum, allowing participants to manipulate them. In this way, the principles inherent to photography are approached in an experimental, intelligent and sensitive way.
  • The making of a darkroom as an introduction to the devices from which the following activities will take place.
  • The basic principles of printing with light.
  • Making prints in the cyanotype and photogram technique.
  • Capture of the photographic image: basic principles. The darkroom applied to the registration of images in history.
  • Construction of pinhole and realization of photographs.
  • The basic principles of lens operation; framing, lighting, movement. Experimentation using different cameras.
  • Development of images: Negative
  • Development of images: Positive
  • The printing of images in positive. Contact proofs, function and organisation of laboratory equipment, preparation of ecological chemistry, test magnification.
  • Development of images: Magnification
  • Development of images: Photomontage and retouching
  • Exhibition of photographs taken by the participants.
