The CASA DAS IMAGENS MUSEUM is a place of practice in dialogue with the history and visual and sensitive stories of the country and the world. The museum has been created with the aim of encouraging reflection on the production and use of images in a contemporary context and with a view to promoting social justice.
The Casa das Imagens Museum, located where the Rocha family once lived and operated their printing industry, has been a space for the creation and production of images for over a century. Recently, this place received new objects and images belonging to the history of photography, from the Teófilo Rego Photo-Commercial Fund. We set up the Museum to give meaning to the images of this House, to be a place for their research, investigation, experimentation and exhibition. In the interests of social justice, the Museum works on the power of images to interfere in the representation of individuals, groups and social issues. At the same time, at the Museum we explore the image as a sensitive manifestation that generates imaginaries and transforms human senses.
The Casa das Imagens Museum has been a member of the Portuguese Association of House Museums since November 2020, collaborating in the organization of annual meetings and other activities.

The TRAVELLING MUSEUM is an interdisciplinary project combining science, art and technology in the media field. The Travelling Museum actively contributes to more democratic and equal access to cultural and artistic heritage. Since 2015, it has been travelling outside Casa da Imagem to provide contact with museum objects and artistic practice: it travels to schools and other institutions, taking with it museum objects – a collection of cameras and optical devices. The visit to the Travelling Museum includes an art-based practical workshop and group work to develop visual literacy and media learning.
