The Casa da Imagem works with a photographic collection comprising an archive of around 500,000 photographs taken by the ‘Foto-Comercial Teófilo Rego’ house-industry (1947-c.1998). The fund also includes a collection of cameras and devices, which were collected by Teófilo Rego and which document the technological evolution from the end of the 19th century to the middle of the 20th century, as well as various pieces of equipment belonging to his photographic studio.

The ‘Foto-Comercial Teófilo Rego’ archive is a valuable photographic reference on Porto and the north of Portugal. Along with Teófilo Rego’s personal photographic record, it brings together the commercial work carried out over five decades, and is one of the most representative of the cultural and industrial panorama of the northern region. This collection is currently being recovered for conservation and digital reproduction.
